SummaryMy major research interests are in basic biological processes that have implications for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. I am interested in how the cell senses and regulates the sizes of its intracellular structures, especially the nucleus. I am also interested in DNA replication, DNA damage repair, and cell cycle regulation. I have expertise using Xenopus for cell biology and biochemistry, as well as using budding yeast in genetic and molecular biology experiments. I also have experience studying the biochemistry of DNA and DNA binding proteins. The long-term goal of my labβs research is to elucidate mechanisms of nuclear size regulation so as to understand how nuclear size impacts cell and nuclear function and subnuclear organization.
Specialties: Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis egg extracts, in vitro assembly and regulation of the nucleus, Xenopus embryogenesis, tissue culture, yeast genetics and molecular biology, protein purification, DNA replication, DNA polymerases, cell cycle regulation, telomeres, telomerase, DNA damage
