SummaryA fluvial geomorphologist by background, I have been studying channel dynamics and river processes in Alaska for the past decade or so. Bank erosion and channel migration affect human infrastructure, which often drives the need for these projects. However, these processes are equally influential on aquatic habitats, which has led to some interesting work on salmon habitat in unexpected places. Several projects developing streamflow statistics gave me an opportunity to delve into the character of streamflow in Alaska. The processes generating peak flows (floods) and governing the seasonality of streamflow, and how those change with changes in climate patterns, is a current interest.
